As well as being proficient in 'HTML', XML and 'CSS', web-developers will understand other highly regarded programming languages such as VB, PHP, Java, C# & ASP.net etc. And since most contemporary web sites of any kind of size 'store' their information using SQL Database technology, they are also likely to have a solid handle SQL too. In reality, its not likely that a big e-commerce web site has been put together in layout format by a team of web-designers. The classroom style of learning we remember from school, using textbooks and whiteboards, is usually pretty hard going. If you're nodding as you read this, find training programs which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Research over recent years has constantly confirmed that getting into our studies physically, is much more conducive to long-term memory.

Learning is now available in the form of CD and DVD ROM's, where everything is taught on your PC. Video streaming means you can watch instructors demonstrating how it's all done, and then practice yourself - in an interactive lab. It's wise to view some examples of the kind of training materials you'll be using before you sign on the dotted line. The minimum you should expect would be instructor-led video demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Avoid training that is purely online. Always choose CD or DVD based study materials where obtainable, as you need to be able to use them whenever it's convenient for you - you don't want to be reliant on your broadband being 'up' 100 percent of the time.
