Black Suits And Other Colors For Men’s Suits

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

When it comes to suits, most men have no idea what does and doesn’t look good - so how do they decide what color to choose? Perhaps fortunately, the vast majority of suits are made in only three colors: Black, Dark Grey, and Dark Blue.

Generally, Black suits are believed to be reserved for wear in either church or at the office. The truth, though, is that it can be very trendy and fashionable in a social environment when combined with the right shirt.

Dark Grey is most suited for business owing to its commanding look. A shirt of any shade will compliment this suit.

Dark (Navy) Blue has a tendency to look a bit ordinary. You tend to merge in a gathering in a Navy Blue suit, which may or may not be to your liking. But, it is good enough for any occasion. In case you have a light complexion, it would be advisable to wear dark-hued shirt.

Other Colors. Brown has rarely been considered a suitable color suit for the business world. Men’s suits in brown are usually reserved for social wear along with tweed jackets etc.

White too has it’s place, but those are few and far between. When applied in the right setting, it can make for an incredibly fashionable suit. In the wrong setting, though, it can spell disaster. When purchasing a white suit, consider how often you’ll get the chance to wear it.

Lighter Grey suits are best worn in warmer climates or in the summertime. Looks great with almost any pastel shirt, unless you are reasonably fair skinned, in which case something slightly bolder should be considered.

So you really need to take a few factors into consideration when deciding what color is best. Decide when you will be wearing the suit. Is it mainly for business or social use. Does it suit my complexion and do I wish to stand out and be noticed, blend in or hide?

Don’t forget, regardless of what color suit you desire, you need to feel good in your choice. You can only feel good if you know you look good. You can only truly know you look good if told. Therefore, consider taking along your partner or someone who will offer you an honest opinion. When I needed to buy a really good suit, I took along my wife. The moment I first tried on the suit I went on to buy, she instantly KNEW it was the right choice. Consider it. It’s not a bad place to start.
